The Malta Stock Exchange Index added two points, or less than 0.1% yesterday, to end the week at 3,223.711. Volume was relatively light as 61,381 shares changed hands across a total of 19 deals.
Managing a considerable move upwards were the shares of GO plc, which climbed 4c, or 3.2%, to close at €1.300 in a single deal of 2,500 shares.
Also putting in a strong showing were the shares of RS2 Software plc, which added 2c, or 3.8% to end the day at €0.550 in two trades for a total of 27,500 shares.
Malta International Airport plc gained 3c, or 1.9%, to finish at €1.590 on volume of 2,902 shares across a total of three trades. On Thursday, the airport operator released its operating results for the 6 month interim period ending 30 June 2011. Revenue climbed 2.2%, to €22.7 million from €22.2 million in the same period last year as passenger movements for the first six months of the year grew by 12.7%. Profit before tax, consequently, increased by 11.4%, to €6.3 million.
Rounding out the day’s gainers were the shares of Lombard Bank plc, which added a marginal 5c, or 0.2%, to close at €2.565 in two deals for a total of 4,200 shares.
Finishing lower was the stock of International Hotel Investments plc, which shed 1c, or 1.2%, to end the day at €0.810 in five trades for a total of 18,026 shares.
Bank of Valletta plc was the sole other equity to trade on the day, yet the share of the local retail bank closed unchanged at €2.590 in six deals for a total of 6,253 shares. On Thursday, 24,989 shares across 21 deals were dealt in BOV stock, pushing up the price 4c, or 1.6%, after trading most of the day unchanged. Earlier in the week, the bank issued its interim director’s statement whereby it stated that the cumulative operating profits for the year to date are a little behind those of the equivalent period of financial year 2010.
