Massimo Dutti Reveals new faces for Autumn/Winter 2012 campaign

Malta Independent Sunday, 14 August 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Malgosia Bela and Doug Pickett are the two new faces for Massimo Dutti’s Autumn Winter 2012 collection. Massimo Dutti once again left it in the able hands of photographer Paola Kudacki to capture the two models wearing some of the nicest samples from the new collection and the result was a staggering new photographic assignment that will feature in the Spanish brand’s advertising campaign over the coming months.

Having featured for a number of times on the front cover of Vogue magazine and a number of other leading fashion publications, the 34-year-old Polish model and actress Malgosia Bela a successful runway and editorial model in the late nineties, appearing on the covers of many international editions of Vogue, including Vogue Italia and Vogue Paris. Lanvin, Valentino, Jil Sander, and Versace enlisted her in their advertising campaigns.

In 2001 Bela moved on to an acting career, playing leading role in the Polish movie Stranger directed by Małgorzata Szumowska and the Italian/Polish production Karol: A Man Who Became Pope about the Polish Pope John Paul II. She returned to the fashion industry in 2006, appearing in advertising campaigns for the houses of Louis Vuitton, Chloé, Jil Sander, Donna Karan, and Marc by Marc Jacobs, and for retailers H&M and Barneys. She also appeared in the Pirelli Calendar 2009. She made a Halloween photo session for Harper’s Bazaar with photographer Tim Walker and film director Tim Burton. In April 2011 Malgosia appeared on the cover of Vogue Turkey, photographed by Cuneyt Akeroglu. Today she is considered amongst the top fashion faces of the moment.

In this latest campaign from Massimo Dutti, Malgosia stars alongside male model Doug Pickett, bringing an elegant maturity to the brand’s new collections as she is portrayed swathed in the label’s simple knits, casual outerwear and chic dresses for the autumn.

27-year-old Doug Pickett hails from North Carolina and he was still a high school teenager when he was featued in Ralph Lauren ad campaigns. Having originally planned to go to college to study architecture after high school, Doug Pickett got into modeling when his sister persuaded him to enter a model search contest in his junior year landing him a contract with Abercrombie and Fitch. Doug’s success in modeling business is attibuted to more than just his good looks. Albeit his success, he remains admirably unfazed and it is this unruffled demeanor that top photographers have found so appealing.

The women’s winter collections are this year based on five main inspirations: hunting, equestrian, nordic, college ’50 and country heritage. The hunting collection with its mix of kakis, olives, beiges and garnets start the chilly atmosphere as an introduction to winter whilst the equestrian collection features beiges, camels and blues that stand out when mixed in textures like washed leather or rich tricot. The Nordic countries have inspired the nordic collection hence the ivory, natural, and camel colours combined with a clear denim blue and splash of colour: orange. The college ’50 collection shows the authentic woman in a “school” ambience dominated by pallet colours like sea blue, camels, bottle green, garnets and red. The country heritage collection is clearly inspired by the 70’s, together with a vintage air. Detachable parkas with leather trim, reversible garments, careful tailoring and oral print shirts in a range of kaki greens, ochres, caramel and yellow define a woman using legacy and tradition.

The men’s collections are mainly three: overnight, harvest and bahaus. Overnight, with an ambience inspired by 60’s intellectuals features knit tricot sports coats in pearly knit, voluminous wrap-arounds trimmed with buttons and in neutral colours combined with ink blue, bottle green, garnet and cocoa. Harvest sees the Rebirth of the “folk” look with reversible garments with a sporty character, inspired by hunting, fishing, oil cloth, quilted pockets and zippers, boots, bags and plaid shirts too highlighting colours of ochre, green and olive mixed with shades of burgundy, eggplant and cherry. Bahaus is the “preppy” style evolved. The neutral colour of the outside of the garment contrasts with bright red, oak green, oil and touches of mustard shown in tricot, shirts and accessories.
