Having been successfully involved in the business of IT outsourcing and computer leasing for several years, Smart Technologies has now moved into a third area of operation – the pc rental business.
Founded in 2008 to offer the outsourcing and leasing of IT equipment, Smart Technologies has evolved into the leading Maltese company in this sector. An increase in business has prompted the company to diversify its operations into the renting of IT equipment, thus attracting new business opportunities, more potential customers and more growth for the business.
“When you meet clients, you come in touch with their singular requirements. From these meetings, we started realising there was a need for such a service and we also saw a good potential for growth. At Smart Technologies we have been offering a rental service for these past six month focusing mainly on the renting of PCs, laptops and netbooks, for both the short term as well as long term,” explains Business Development Manager Christopher Demicoli.
One main factor behind Smart Technologies’ growth is that its service is not standard but has to be adapted according to the needs and expectations of the customer.
“Each IT package is worked specifically around the client’s requirements and business objectives, a commitment that has been a core value since the company’s establishment, and a factor that has determined our competitive edge,” added Mr Demicoli, “and this new operation of renting IT equipment is no exception. People give us a call and we discuss the use to which the equipment will be put and then decide which type of equipment best suits the customer’s needs. Some companies may decide to rent computer laptops for the convenience and flexibility they offer, especially during business travel. Event hosting companies might wish to offer a supply of laptops for a conference or presentation, whilst a customer might need to provide laptops for a temporary office or training class. These are a few examples of when renting might be the best option.”
Of course, there are other advantages too. The customer does not need to purchase the equipment and will only be paying a fraction of what it is worth. In addition, during the rental period, the equipment will be insured against accidental damage, and also covered for any hardware maintenance (repair or replacement) so that the customer has minimum downtime.
“Some of the potential customers who can enjoy our service include businesses that are expecting a temporary increase in their workforce during the summer or that have a particular project for which, once it is finished, they will no longer need the equipment. Businesses needing equipment for fairs or events, or for setting up a temporary location for the training of staff, are also potential clients. For such events we are also offer the service of setting up temporary Wi-Fi connectivity for the site and can also provide personnel on site during the event at an additional cost,” Mr Demicoli concluded.
