FinanceMalta, the foundation set up to promote Malta’s International Financial Centre, are organising a number of events in Germany, in collaboration with Malta’s economic development agency – Malta Enterprise later this month. Malta and Germany already have a strong relationship with more than 50 German firms operating in the country in diverse sectors such as insurance, manufacturing and engineering, logistics, maritime, ICT and tourism. Direct investment from Germany totals €24.5 billion.
FinanceMalta is expecting to reach a number of key German decision-makers with a series of 6 events to be held in Berlin from 14 to 16 September. The FinanceMalta delegation includes of Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg, Malta Enterprise Executive Chairman Alan Camilleri, FinanceMalta Head of Business Development Bruno L’ecuyer, as well as a number of FinanceMalta Corporate Members representing the legal, accountancy, consulting, insurance and banking sectors Malta’s Ambassador to Germany, Karl Xuereb will also join the delegation
FinanceMalta’s Head of business development Bruno L’ecuyer said that representatives from over 70 German organisations have confirmed their attendance as well as nearly 20 domestic professionals, and that delegates will include chairmen, heads and executives from leading German firms including banks, capital managers, asset managers, professional services groups, legal firms and the corporate sector. He adds that the underpinning theme is to drive deeper sustainable connections with one our most important trading partners that stand the test of time and the continuing changes to business models. These six events are the latest on the FinanceMalta’s calendar for the year, which has already included seminars and events in key financial centres such as London and Frankfurt.
The opening event on September 14 will be addressed by Dr Borg, and is part of FinanceMalta’s ‘Doing Business In Malta’ series and will highlight the key benefits Malta offers to international investors, such as a strong and diversified economy, a motivated, trained and highly-skilled workforce, top class ICT infrastructure, market access, stable social and political environments and a balanced financial regulatory regime. The following day FinanceMalta will host a business breakfast at the Berlin Capital Club and will showcase Malta’s dynamic, open and international economy. The Berlin Capital Club is the first private business club in Berlin. Located in the centre of Berlin it is one of capital’s finest institutions. It offers its members excellent regional, national and international business contacts. The network and support of its partners has priority for the Club’s business.
The schedule on 15 September includes a private lunch event at the Savoy Hotel moderated by TV personality Mila da Veela which aims to inform investors from the manufacturing, aviation, pharma and biotech sectors on the advantages of doing business in Malta , as well as an evening seminar at the Commerzbank HQ for bankers again moderated by bi-lingual Mila da Veela. Commerzbank AG is the second-largest bank in Germanymainly active in commercial, retail and mortgage banking. A panel discussion on banking will also led by FinanceMalta members.
There will also be a private event to inform legal professionals and their respective clients on the Maltese legal framework and the opportunities of doing business in Malta. This event is hosted by one of Berlin’s leading law firms at their corporate offices. To round off an intensive couple of days, FinanceMalta will host a lunch event for CFO’s from DAX 50 companies to showcase the advantages of doing business in Malta, and also the potential benefits of setting up operations in Malta. This event is hosted by the CFO of Deutsche Telekom AG, one of the world’s leading telecommunications and information technology service companies.
