Medavia Focusing on bridging the digital divide gap

Malta Independent Sunday, 4 September 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Medavia a local aviation and equality certified organisation with its main business of operations in Libya, has just embarked on an ambitious learning project that will see all levels of employees acquiring basic and intermediate ICT competencies.

Training will be delivered on-site and will be held during normal working hours. The learning programme, developed by the company’s ICT department, will cover popular topics such as Internet effectiveness, social media utilization, basic PC maintenance and others. All participants will be presented with a certificate of attendance.

Joe Formosa, Medavia’s general manager, said this training programme comes at a time when human resources need to deploy practices that stimulate people engagement and belonging. It is crucial for the company’s management to ensure that the established high levels of people motivation, performance, well being and retention are maintained.

As expected, the Libya crisis has of course instilled levels of uncertainty and job ambiguity company-wide, yet with the right positive attitude, determination and other realistic cost cutting measures, the company retained its entire workforce and continues to invest in training its people.

Abdurazagh Zmirli, Medavia’s managing director and chairman, argued that in the face of competition, it is crucial that similar talent initiatives are deployed without hesitation for the mutual benefit of the people and the organisation. In tomorrow’s organisations, the intellectual capital will continue to be an ongoing investment where employees are constantly learning new skills, changing and reinventing both themselves and their firms.
