Intralot Awarded Australian gaming machine monitoring licence

Malta Independent Sunday, 18 September 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Victorian Gaming Minister Michael O’Brien has announced that Intralot Gaming Services Pty Ltd (Intralot or IGS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Intralot Australia Pty Ltd, has been awarded the Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM) Monitoring Licence for a period of 15 years beginning 16 August 2012.

In Malta, Intralot operates Maltco Lotteries.

Up to 27,500 EGMs in Victoria (outside the Melbourne Casino) will be connected to and monitored by the iGEM electronic monitoring system supplied and operated by Intralot.

Intralot will undertake a number of EGM monitoring functions in order to fulfil the state’s primary objectives with respect to EGM monitoring services. These primary objectives include ensuring accurate and uninterrupted monitoring of EGM transactions and single and multiple venue linked jackpot arrangements and the capture of data and information with respect to EGMs for regulatory, taxation, research and related purposes.

Mr O’Brien said he had accepted the recommendation of the Secretary of the Department of Justice that “based on the assessments, it is in the public’s interest that IGS’ application for the monitoring licence be granted”.

Mr O’Brien said: “The Secretary’s report was clear that IGS was the preferred bid. IGS’ bid offered a fair and competitive pricing model and agreed to comply with the terms and conditions of the monitoring licence and related agreement.”

Intralot Australia CEO Leo Watling said he was delighted with the Minister’s announcement as it represents a resounding validation that the Intralot Group’s EGM monitoring expertise is world class.

“The Intralot Group successfully provides EGM monitoring services in a number of countries around the world, including New Zealand, so we were able to clearly demonstrate that we had the experience and capability to deliver the same world class expertise for Victoria. Importantly, our iGEM monitoring solution is flexible enough to ensure that the company can effectively accommodate many future state of the art functionalities including responsible gambling measures for the conduct of gaming”.

“Possibly the most satisfying aspect, however, is that this opportunity further fulfils our promise to operate a substantial and sustainable business in the gaming industry in Australia.” Mr Watling said.

Constantinos Antonopoulos, Intralot Group CEO, welcomed this important achievement for the group’s Australian business:

“We are extremely pleased with the decision of the Victorian Minister for Gaming to trust our innovative technology. Our company has invested in Australia and has demonstrated its commitment to the country, having established a strong presence. I congratulate the global Intralot team and the highly skilled local management team on this achievement, whose dedication guarantees the effective implementation of the monitoring project. We are confident that it will add value to our shareholders, capitalizing our significant investment in the country. The company now looks forward to the challenges ahead as we approach the start date for this licence in August 2012”.
