Financial News Compiled by BOV Group: MSE higher Friday despite session finishing mixed

The Malta Stock Exchange gained just under eleven points, or 0.3 per cent on Friday, to close at the 3,090.282 on moderate volume of 68,995 shares, despite the equity market finishing with mixed results.

The banking sector was mostly higher with HSBC Bank Malta plc shares gaining 3c, or 1.2 per cent, to end at €2.630 in light volume of 4,500 shares across three deals.

Bank of Valletta plc shares were also higher yesterday, adding 1c, or 0.4 per cent, to finish at €2.530 in two deals for a total 2,200 shares.

But bucking the trend were the shares of Lombard Bank plc, which shed 2c1, or 0.8 per cent, to close at €2.679 in a single deal of 1,500 shares.

Shares of the local telecommunications provider, GO plc, dropped 2c, or 1.8 per cent, to end the week at €1.120 on robust volume of 47,495 shares across 12 trades. At one point during the session, GO shares traded as much as 9c lower, but managed to claw back most of the losses late in the session.

In the IT services sector, RS2 Software plc stock gained 2c, or 3.5 per cent, to end the week at €0.600 in a single deal of 10,000 shares.

Finally, equity of MaltaPost plc witnessed trading action of 3,300 shares across five deals and ended unchanged at €0.979. Shares of the local postal operator traded considerably lower during the day as well – at one point up to 7c9 lower, but investors snapped up the shares late in the day to see them close flat

The corporate bond market closed unchanged with three issues of the eleven to see trading closing higher while just a single bond ended lower. Putting in a solid performance was the 5.6% GlobalCapital plc € 2014/16 bond which added €6.990, or 8.4 per cent, to close at €90.000 in just a single deal of €400 nominal.
