HSBC Malta Foundation Supports summer camp for children with diabetes

The HSBC Malta Foundation has supported children with diabetes to participate in the annual Diabetes Summer Camp. Apart from having fun, during the camp the children learn how to tackle their condition and are able to share experiences with their peers who have the same challenges.

During the three-day camp, which was organised by the Maltese Diabetes Association in conjunction with the Diabetes and Endocrine Centre at the Department of Health, the children met President George Abela, visited his residence at San Anton Gardens and other historical places of interest, and participated in physical activities. Significant highlights of the camp included educational sessions on dealing with diabetes and the sharing of experiences.

Malta Diabetes Association president Anna Zammit McKeon said: “The idea behind the camp is to empower children to take control of their condition and to provide a safe environment for them to discuss their challenges with other children going through the same issues. HSBC Malta Foundation’s sponsorship offers these children the opportunity to address these issues in a constructive and fun environment, thereby enabling them to be better equipped to face the future.”

The Diabetes Association is a voluntary non-governmental organisation aimed at educating its members and the public about diabetes. It provides its young members with various support services and activities, including weekend live-ins and an annual camp.
