The HSBC Malta Foundation together with the bank’s Sports and Social Committee organised the third annual triathlon challenge for HSBC staff members. Last month, participants walked, cycled, ran and swam from Gozo to Malta through a number of towns and villages in Malta to raise funds in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund’s L-Istrina. The challenge involved a freestyle triathlon starting with a swim from Ħondoq ir-Rummien in Gozo to Malta through Comino; a run around Ċirkewwa and Marfa; cycling to Ta’ Qali National Park, followed by a “cool down” walk to the Presidential Palace at San Anton. The participating employees were greeted with light refreshments by President George Abela, HSBC’s CEO Alan Richards and representatives of the Malta Community Chest Fund.
No hard and fast rules restricted how long a participant chose to swim, cycle, run or walk but the overall distance of 50 km was covered collectively as a group. The sum collected from the triathlon was topped up with proceeds donated by staff as part of a Dress Down Day last Friday, organised specifically in support of L-Istrina.
“L-Istrina has become a cause close to the heart for us all at HSBC and I would like to thank everyone who has participated in this fund-raising challenge for such a worthy cause,” said Mr Richards.
