Last Saturday a group of 25 6pm employees, family and friends braved the rain and turned up as true troopers for a bike ride in aid of the 6pm Charity Foundation. The organising committee created two different routes, one for the cycling enthusiasts which was 41km and a slightly shorter one which was 12km to make sure that everyone was able to join in. The group started out in Ta’ Qali. The weather conditions were such that the ride had to be taken slowly to ensure everyone’s safety, as well as to make sure that all would make it to the finish line together! The second group who had signed up for the shorter leg of the ride joined the group about an hour before they reached the end adding extra enthusiasm and energy boost needed to get everyone to the end of the ride. Despite the heavy rain the 6pm group soldiered on completing the ride by early afternoon.
The charity bike ride would not have been possible without the support vehicles that accompanied the riders to ensure their safety, supply the riders with food and drinks to boost their energy and carry spare bikes.
The 6pm Charity Foundation has been at the heart of the company and its employees for a number of years. Set up in 2007, the Foundation was established to give a little back to the communities we live and work in and provides sustained and substantial support to underprivileged children and families in Malta and the UK.
“The committee have raised €675 which the company will be matching. On behalf of the company, I would like to thank all those who braved the weather and participated in the event, all those who provided their generous donations to the cause and finally I must thank the bike ride organising committee and the Charity Foundation committee for all their work and commitment to the Foundation.” Commented Ivan Bartolo, CEO at 6pm Holdings plc. The 6pm charity bike ride will now become an annual event.
