Malta’s attractiveness as a trade and investment location was promoted at a business event in Salzburg hosted by the Federation of Austrian Industries and the Austrian Foreign Trade Promotion Organisation.

The meeting, held earlier this month, served as an opportunity to present a concise overview of the opportunities Malta offers to entrepreneurs in Austria, particularly those wishing to expand their business abroad and specifically to the southern European and Mediterranean region.

In his welcoming address, Malta’s Ambassador to Austria Christopher Grima spoke about the relations between Malta and Austria and discussed the opportunities that Malta offers from a tourism and business perspective.

Malta Enterprise’s Global Leader for Investment and Trade Promotion Kevin Chircop highlighted the benefits of Malta’s strategic geopolitical location as well as its favourable fiscal regime and the availability of financial assistance, all of which have attracted many renowned international firms to invest and flourish in Malta. He also listed those sectors in which Malta managed to become a regional centre of excellence, including healthcare and advanced manufacturing among others.

In addition to outlining the healthy business environment in the country, Malta Enterprise’s coordinator for Bilateral and Diplomatic Affairs Emmanuel Mazzitelli explained how Malta could be used as a base for the sales and marketing operations of Austrian companies in the Euro-Med region, particularly in North Africa.

Other speakers included the Malta Tourism Authority representative in Vienna, Corinna Ziegler, who dwelt on Malta’s tourism attractions, as well as EuroMediti CEO Ing. Joseph Sammut, who spoke at length on the efforts to encourage SMEs to innovate.

Malta Enterprise also organised a meeting with Malta’s Consuls in Austria, who were briefed on ME’s industrial strategy, the forthcoming international business events in which ME will be participating, and ways where the Honorary Consuls can be proactive in developing contacts and lead generation.

Particular mention was given to Malta Enterprise’s team of regional leaders who are working in the markets themselves and with whom the Consuls could collaborate closely to open doors with entities and companies as well as exchange information.
