1,000 Items for Belgravia Auction Gallery’s December auction

Malta Independent Sunday, 30 October 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Some 1,000 items are to comprise Belgravia Auction Gallery’s December auction, and a Maltese bureau bookcase in serpentine form, dating back to circa 1775, will be one of the important pieces of furniture in the collection.

Amongst the 1,000 lots featuring in the auction are an array of paintings and works of art by Maltese and international artists, which will command an important and interesting part of this auction.

A rare example of Emvin Cremona’s work in glass will be one of the auction’s highlights, as will Cremona’s painting on canvas, which was the only piece to be shown at the International Biennale.

A superb Willie Apap pen and ink of a girl and an Espirit Barthet rooftops example will also be auctioned.

The jewellery section includes modern as well as antique gold items, amongst which are pocket watches and a Georgian fine granspinat fan chain. Other collections going under the hammer include sets of religious items, porcelain and glass.

The New Year auctions at Belgravia, meanwhile, open on 24 January with a specialised auction of Melitensia books, numismatica, philately and toys.

On 1 December Joseph Sammut will once again conduct Contemporary Art for the Malta Community Chest Fund auction. This year’s charitable auction is to include an array of works by important artists that have been donated. The event will be held at San Anton Palace under the patronage of President George Abela.

Further details of these events are available at Belgravia Auction Gallery’s website at www.belgraviaauctions.com
