Most People clean only 30% of their teeth

A survey conducted by Aquafresh Ultimate toothpaste showed that normally a person only gets to clean 30 per cent of their teeth. This may be a major cause for damage and decay as 70 per cent of the tooth lies below the gum line and if the gum seal is not kept tight, bacteria can get in.

“Most people are conscious about the importance of brushing their teeth regularly. What they do not realise is that if they only reach the 30% of the tooth they can see, they would be leaving the other 70% below the gum line vulnerable to the bacteria there,” said Monica Abdilla, Country Manager at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare, manufacturers of the new Aquafresh Ultimate.

To raise awareness on the importance of cleaning the teeth properly and protecting them from the undesirable bacteria which may form below the gum line, GSK recently organised an informational activity for the public at The Plaza shopping mall in Sliema.

During the event, the public was given advice on how to look after their teeth by choosing the right product and cleaning methods that get to the root of their problem, which would otherwise cause bad breath and tooth decay.

“It is important for consumers to understand that they need to look after their teeth both above and below the gum line,” said Ms Abdilla. “New Aquafresh Ultimate has a unique patented formula designed to strengthen the parts of the teeth which are visible and protect the 70% below the gum line by killing harmful bacteria and in turn helping to keep the gum seal tight and healthy.”
