MCA Launches new courses in new ICTforALL scheme

Malta Independent Sunday, 13 November 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The MCA has launched a number of courses under the ICTforALL scheme, aimed at persuading more adults to start using ICT for a better quality of life and to enhance individuals’ employability.

The scheme is being supported by Microsoft Malta through the donation of software licences consisting of Microsoft Windows 7 upgrade and Office 2010 professional worth €90,000. This software is being used to update all CTLC computers used for training. Microsoft has further invested €14,000 in the localization of the Microsoft Digital Literacy courses and assessments making all available courses available in both Maltese and English.

There are three courses being offered in this scheme − the ICTforALL basics, the Microsoft Digital Literacy course and the Microsoft Productivity Programs course. Individuals aged 25 and over are entitled to apply for vouchers redeemable against the training course/s of their choice.

“We have long recognised the need to engender user confidence in ICT applications that facilitate day-to-day activities. The positive response to the previous scheme has confirmed this and spurred us on to continue offering other courses of this nature,” commented Ing. Philip Micallef, executive chairman at MCA. “The training offers participants the opportunity to experience different ICT applications and to learn how to apply these in their everyday life. Sending an e-mail to a friend abroad, using eGovernment services and sharing a digital photo with friends are just some of the many digital lifestyle situations addressed in this training.”

Angela Micallef, Citizenship Manager at Microsoft Malta added, “Microsoft Malta is delighted to be supporting the ICTforALL scheme, an initiative that promotes digital inclusion and re-skilling of the workforce to bridge the digital divide. We constantly strive to help local non-profit organisations reach their full potential with the latest technologies available through the Microsoft Community Software programme.”

The training will be delivered at the various NGO administered Community Training and Learning Centres (CTLCs) set up across Malta and Gozo.
