Air Malta Workshop

Malta Independent Friday, 18 November 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Air Malta has organised a workshop on the flight arrival and despatch processes, aiming to identify problems, find solutions and prioritise new ideas in the chain of processes involved in despatching a flight.

The workshop was facilitated by Air Malta’s project management office and brought together employees involved in the checking in of passengers, aircraft engineers, pilots and cabin crew, load control, ramp and despatch, luggage handlers and employees working in cargo operations.

The workshop included a brain storming session involving all functions to identify problems across these processes. All participants then had an opportunity to identify possible solutions to the problems.

Speaking at the start of the workshop, Chief Restructuring Officer Ray Hart gave an overview of the 167 individual projects that are being handled by his office that span areas related to cargo, finance, corporate and financial restructuring, contracts management, ground handling, human resources, information technology and revenue enhancement among others.

Philip Saunders, Air Malta’s Chief Commercial Officer added, “Air Malta is slowly moving forward on its way to recovery. We are already seeing good signs as this summer both seat load factors and yields have increased. Although much work still needs to be done I’m confident that transformation can be driven by everyone around this table. Since joining the airline I have seen a genuine desire by all staff in various levels to make the airline move forward and return it as soon as possible to profitability.”
