Trading activity during Friday’s session on the Malta Stock Exchange saw the MSE Index move downwards, to close at 3,127.594, representing a drop of 0.12 percent from that reported on Thursday. An aggregate of 47,036 shares changed hands through 30 deals, with three equities reporting movement in their respective price.
The larger part of trading activity was dealt in the financial sector, with Malta International Airport registering a noticeable amount of shares being transacted in its name. Out of the financial sector shares transacted, Bank of Valletta Plc reported 3,850 shares that changed hands through four deals. This level of activity did not change the price from the previous close price and this remained at €2.500. HSBC Bank Malta Plc registered the largest volume of shares transacted, with 25,918 shares changing hands during the session. However while there was a good level of activity in this share, HSBC’s price dropped by 0.38 percent or 1c to reach €2.600.
Alongside this, Malta International Airport Plc registered a gain in price from the previous session’s closing price. MIA registered eight transactions involving an aggregate of 16,300 shares having an aggregate market value of €27,660. MIA closed at €1.700.
Maltapost Plc registered the largest drop in price during the last session of the week. Maltapost saw its share price drop by 3.06%, or 3c through a sole transaction of 968 shares, to reach €0.950 by the end of the trading session.
In the fixed income sector of the market, activity was spread across thirteen corporate bonds and four government stocks. In the corporate bond market, out of those traded, four bonds reported a decrease in price, four bonds increased in price while five others maintained their previous day’s close. A nominal value of €196,499 was transacted which had an aggregate market value of €194,536. Out of the bonds that reported an increase in price, the 7% MIDI Plc 2016-2018 bond registered a gain of 0.49%, or 50c, to hit €102.00. Out of the four government bonds that traded, the 4.6% MGS 2020(II) registered the largest drop of 1.62 percent or €1.67 to reach €101.390.
