GO Gives its full support to Malta Red Cross – Malta Branch

Malta Independent Sunday, 27 November 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

GO recently pledged its full support to the Malta Red Cross Malta Branch that provides crucial services in the voluntary field both locally and internationally. GO has made a donation to this hugely popular and widely respected humanitarian organisation, enabling its dedicated team of volunteers to carry on with their sterling work. Through the partnership, the Malta Red Cross Malta Branch will experience the benefits of the quad-play services powered by GO with immediate effect.

As recognition of the partnership between the two parties, two of the ambulances operated by the Malta Red Cross will sport the GO logo prominently on both sides and on the back of the vehicles.

Being the operational arm of The Malta Red Cross Society, The Malta Red Cross – Malta Branch is a humanitarian organisation that forms part of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Since its inception 20 years ago, The Malta Red Cross Society has played a leading role in alleviating the suffering of the most vulnerable and demonstrated its relevance and undisputed value. The branch’s vision is to promote humanitarian principles and values, provide first aid coverage and support local health authorities and the civil protection department in case of a national disaster via the professionalism and altruism of its Disaster Response team.

The vast list of events monitored by the Operations team is continually on the rise and covers a wide range of local events such as l-Istrina, various marathons, athletic and cycling events, Notte Bianca, Birgu by Candlelight, village feasts, beer festivals, concerts, boat and car races, sports competitions, private parties – and more. Incidentally, GO has, on many occasions, sponsored these immensely popular events.

Speaking about GO’s partnership with the Malta Red Cross Malta Branch, Vanessa Macdonald, manager of Public & Media Relations/Corporate Communications at GO, said: “GO is delighted to have the opportunity to team up with the Malta Red Cross – Malta Branch. GO and The Malta Red Cross Society share a common vision involving a continued drive to enhance community spirit. Even though the role of the two entities differs, there is no doubt that the agreement we have reached will draw us even closer towards attaining a mutual goal that is community-related.”

“The initiative underlines our strong bonding with the local community and proves that GO is committed to the principles of effective corporate social responsibility,” she commented.

Edward Gruppetta, vice president of The Malta Red Cross Society, thanked GO for its support and said that the success of The Malta Red Cross initiatives depended largely on the generosity of caring companies like GO. He urged individuals to step forward and join up as volunteers and appealed to companies for donations to this very worthy cause.

“The mission of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies at large – to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilising the power of humanity – can be considered as a shared responsibility and we all have a specific role in achieving this goal,” said Mr Gruppetta.
