The Institute of Directors Malta Branch (IoD) has recently gone into overdrive in an effort led by its chairman, James Satariano, to internationalise the local branch further.
Mr Satariano recently attended the institute’s annual dinner in London as the personal guest of new IoD Director-General Simon Walker. Among a raft of high-level appointments in a distinguished career, Mr Walker was also Communications Secretary to Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Prior to joining the team at IoD, Mr Walker was chief executive of BVCA, the organisation that represents British private equity and venture capital, from 2007 until earlier this year. Between 2003 and 2007 he worked at Reuters as Director of Corporate Communications and Marketing. He was Communications Secretary to the Queen at Buckingham Palace from 2000 to 2003. Earlier, he served as Director of Corporate Affairs at British Airways and as a special adviser in the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit at 10 Downing Street during the Major government.
The IoD annual dinner is an exclusive evening for international business leaders and the social highlight of the IoD’s calendar. Mr Satariano held several meetings during his stay to build on the work done by IoD Malta in 2010 and 2011 to bring about a transformation of IoD’s role in the business community.
If you are a Maltese business thinking of trading overseas, the first question you might be asking yourself is “who can help me”? On Mr Satariano’s initiative, IoD Malta Branch is currently developing the various support and advisory services for local firms wishing to do business abroad, and cultivating the networks and introductions in each market to facilitate trade.
Recently, IoD Malta strengthened its ties with a number of strategic locations important to Maltese business, including hosting Richard Le Tocq from IoD Guernsey: a follow-up feature appeared in IoD Guernsey’s November/December newsletter on the Malta meeting.
IoD Malta Branch is recognised as the premier business organisation for business people in Malta. Acknowledged as one of the most pro-active branches in the IoD network, IoD Malta’s objectives are simply to support members’ business activities locally by providing a range of networking opportunities and lobbying actions.
The branch has held more than 50 events in the last few years, ranging from social events to informative discussion forums, topical business breakfasts and corporate hospitality occasions as well as partnering with the Central Bank, Malta Stock Exchange, Malta Financial Services Authority and various others to deliver corporate governance events. IoD Malta provides members with exclusive access to venues and important members of the business community internationally; supports Malta-based directors to fulfil their leadership responsibilities; facilitates networking relations; provides an unsurpassed platform for conducting business and represents the concerns of members nationally and beyond.
