The Transition to the private cloud discussed at Systec virtualisation conference

Malta Independent Sunday, 4 December 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The transition to the private cloud, from a virtualised IT environment, features at the top of today’s Chief Information Officer’s priorities. Systec Limited has addressed this topic by organising a unique event in Malta, bringing together Microsoft, VMWare and Hewlett Packard all on the same platform. All three presented their vision for this transition to the Cloud, at a half-day seminar held last month at the Le Merdien St Julian’s.

“Beyond Virtualisation – The Private Cloud ... driven by Systec, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft and VMWare”, the fifth annual virtualisation conference organised by Systec, was extremely well attended by CEOs, CIOs, IT managers, IT consultants and executives. “This was a unique opportunity to understand the strategy and direction of the IT world’s dominant players, first hand, at one and the same event in Malta,” explained Ing. Raphael Micallef Trigona, managing director of Systec Limited.

Following a welcoming and introductory speech by Ing. Micallef Trigona, the keynote speech was delivered by Takuya Hirano, Microsoft’s multi-country general manager for Central and Eastern Europe. Mr Hirano delved into the latest worldwide IT cloud trends and went on to highlight Microsoft’s vision for the next few years.

Szilard Bolla, HP Cloud Lead for Central and Eastern Europe elaborated Hewlett Packard’s strategy for transformation from the virtualised model to the private/hybrid cloud models. An extremely interesting video interview was shown of eBay’s Datacentre and Cloud Computing Senior Executive, Dean Nelson, discussed how eBay’s processes had to be optimised before moving to become the largest cloud market place based on HP services and solutions.

IT business management together with transformation from a VMWare DataCentre to a Private Cloud, was the topic addressed by VMWare’s Anthanassios Sioutas, Senior Systems Engineer for Greece. He highlighted the significant role played by Vmware’s IT business management solutions, in order to assist with a successful transition to the cloud.

The Microsoft Cloud is proposed as a cloud dedicated to its corporate owner. This was the theme presented by Athanassios Kladakis, Microsoft Solution Specialist, Greece. Microsoft portrays a cross-platform approach to the cloud and cloud system centre management where the cloud user may select his preferred cloud approach when transitioning from a virtualised IT infrastructure.

A well received and new feature in Systec’s seminar series was the round-table discussion session, chaired by Nuno Fernandes, Systec’s Technology Solutions manager. This allowed HP, Microsoft and Vmware to air their respective views on various relevant issues, as well as differentiate their particular strategy directly from that of the other strategies presented. The floor was also able to place questions for discussion directly to the speakers.

Ing. Micallef Trigona concluded, “Systec Limited is in fact 10 years old this year and we are proud to have been able to present world-class speakers to address the local IT community at this seminar.”
