Australia’s economy clocked a second consecutive quarter of strong growth, bolstered by its booming mining industry.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics said Wednesday that the nation’s gross domestic product rose by 1 percent in the three months to Sept. 30 from the previous quarter. That follows revised growth of 1.4% in the June quarter.
The bureau said construction and mining were major contributors to the growth.
Treasurer Wayne Swan says the result is exceptional, given the fragile state of the global economy and the ongoing debt crisis in Europe.
Strong Chinese demand for Australia’s mineral resources has led to a mining boom that has boosted Australia’s economy in recent years.
