Trading activity during the last week session on the Malta Stock Exchange ended in marginally positive territory as the Index rose by less than 0.1 per cent to close at the 3,092.984 level. This happened when the gains registered in three equities made up for losses registered in the shares of a single company. In the equity market, activity was spread across five companies as investors negotiated an aggregate of 17,280 shares over 21 deals.
MaltaPost was the only equity to end the day in negative territory as the equity shed 2c5 or 2.6 per cent to close the session at the €0.950 level. Volume in the postal operator was muted as investors exchanged just 204 shares across a single transaction.
On the contrary, Malta International Airport headed the list of gainers as the equity rose by 1c5 or 1 per cent to end the day at €1.565. Trading activity for the airport operator was also characterised by low volume as investors transacted 316 shares across one deal.
Meanwhile, Bank of Valletta was the session’s most liquid and actively traded equity as investors negotiated 8,150 shares across nine deals for a market consideration of €20,375. The bank also managed to make a marginal 0c1 gain to close at €2.501. HSBC Bank Malta also ended the session with marginal gains as the equity rose by 0c5 or 0.2 per cent to close at €2.585. Trading activity in the bank’s shares resulted when 1,700 shares were transacted across two deals.
GO was the sole equity to register no change in price at the close of trading, closing at €0.950. Activity in the quadruple play telecommunications company occurred when investors transacted 6,910 shares across eight deals.
In the fixed interest sector of the market activity was spread across seven corporate bonds and 16 government stocks. In the corporate bond market most bonds closed unchanged, while a single bond closed higher and another closed lower. However, in the sovereign bond market, the majority of stocks closed higher. In fact, the largest gains were registered in the 5.1% MGS 2022(I) bond which rose by 2.6 per cent to close at €105.520. Investors in the bond transacted €835 nominal across one deal.
