Malta Independent Wednesday, 21 December 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

It was on the morning of 2 May 2007 when a GPS system confirmed that a team of three presenters from BBC’s programme Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May became the first people to reach within a mile of the magnetic north pole location in a motor vehicle.

The project, co-ordinated by Toyota and Top Gear, with the help of Arctic Trucks, an Icelandic vehicle modification company featured the team travelling on board a Toyota Hilux, an event dubbed as the Hilux Arctic Challenge.

The Toyota Hilux’s latest expedition came to an end recently when it was unloaded in Malta from on board Express Trailers’ special cargo trailer. Besides the Toyota Hilux, Express Trailers handled the logistical transportation and importation of a Toyota Supra and a Lotus Evora S. All three vehicles came from the UK and all the logistical support was provided by Express Trailers in aid of the Paqpaqli għall-Istrina campaign aimed at raising funds for the Community Chest Fund.

“Express Trailers has been very active in the car importation business over the past few years, assisting a vast number of clients import their respective automobile brands to Malta. The technical experience and the sound logistical backup that the company now enjoys made it the ideal choice when the organisers of the upcoming Paqpaqli għall-Istrina event came to import these prestigious vehicles for the event,” said Antoine Vella, Director at Express Group.
