Malta Independent Sunday, 1 January 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Marvin Cuschieri, the current JCI Malta National President, was elected to form part of the international Board of Directors for 2012 during the Junior Chamber International World Congress in Brussels, Belgium.

Every year, the JCI World Congress unites JCI members and partners from all over the world to participate in highly motivational sessions, the annual general assembly meeting, JCI programmes, forums and events to share best practices exchange ideas and determine the future of the organisation.

Junior Chamber International (JCI) is the only worldwide non-political and non-sectarian international federation of citizens aged between 18 and 40 with the aim and purpose of creating positive change in the world. The organisation, active in 115 countries, carries out its mission with various projects and programmes related to entrepreneurship, training and community services. JCI Malta, established in 1994, is the local affiliate of JCI.

A total of 4,532 delegates from more than 100 countries attended this year’s event held in the month of November. Marvin Cuschieri received the third highest amount of votes from 31 candidates and was one of the only two candidates that received an A grading in the interviewing and election caucus process. Marvin Cuschieri is the second Maltese to be elected to this prestigious post, the other being Ms Mariella MacLeod (née De Battista) in 2001.

“Being elected vice president is a great achievement in itself, more so coming from a small country like Malta. As a board member I will be implementing the international organisation’s plan of action for 2012,” said Mr Cuschieri. He joined JCI Malta in 2007 and formed part of JCI’s Business (La Valette chapter) sub-committee in 2008. In 2009, Marvin was part of the JCI Board as Director for EU Affairs, in 2010 as Deputy President and in 2011 as National President. He is one of the youngest ever board members of the international organisation, which was set up back in 1915.

As JCI Vice President to Europe, Mr Cuschieri has been assigned a number of countries such as Monaco, France, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. In his professional life, Mr Cuschieri heads the Business & Investment Consultancy Unit within Malta Enterprise, where he manages a team of business consultants offering business advisory services to Maltese based companies.
