In a statement yesterday, the Labour Party condemned the actions of Syria’s leader Bashar el-Assad, saying he had killed more than 6,000 people over the past months and was continuing to strengthen his efforts.
The PL also expressed sadness that actions that could have been taken by the United Nations Security Council were blocked by Russia and China.
The party therefore urged these two countries to realise that with every day that passes, more people are dying, and called for a compromise to be found. The UN, together with the EU and Arab League needs to make enough political and diplomatic pressure for el-Assad’s regime to be stopped.
Undoubtedly, a leader that was acting in such a way against his own citizens would have lost his legitimacy, said the party.
