Malta Independent Sunday, 19 February 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Malta Enterprise will be leading a business delegation to Tel Aviv between 24 and 28 March with the aim of exploring trade and investment opportunities in the country as well as possible areas of cooperation.

With flourishing ICT, services and R&D sectors, Israel is one of the global leaders in terms of high-tech capabilities and consequently presents numerous business opportunities waiting to be exploited, with several investors considering it as the land of opportunity.

Despite the fact that conflicts are often given more prominence over the positive news in the region, the country’s economy comprises other strong sectors such as life sciences, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, electronics, travel and tourism, alternative energies, new media as well as food and beverages are also performing well.

Malta Enterprise will not only be organising a business forum to promote Malta’s business-friendly environment, but also networking sessions and a match-making event to facilitate the development of contacts between the delegation’s participants and businesses in Israel.

As part of its assistance, which also includes financing part of the expenses incurred to be a member of the delegation, Malta Enterprise will also endeavour to help set up one-to-one meetings for local companies.

The business delegation to Israel – which is being supported by the Maltese Embassy in Tel Aviv, FinanceMalta, the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, the General Retailers and Traders Union, the Gozo Business Chamber and the Malta Tourism Authority – forms part of this year’s calendar of internationalisation events.

Over the coming week, Malta Enterprise is organising a business delegation to Africa’s leading economy, South Africa, while other delegations are being planned in the coming months to some of Malta’s traditional markets such as the UK, Germany and Italy, as well as to some relatively new markets such as China and the Gulf States.

The calendar of internationalisation events also includes a number of specialised trade fairs, with Malta Enterprise assisting local companies to participate and showcase their products or services. Among others, these included the ICE Gaming event in London already held in January, as well as the EBACE aviation expo in Geneva and the Libya Build in Tripoli.

The events form part of the assistance provided by Malta Enterprise to local companies to help them internationalise and seek new markets abroad, which also comprises the ERDF co-funded International Competitiveness scheme. A Fourth Call for the latter scheme is open until 3 April.

Since 2009, Malta Enterprise has approved assistance amounting to over €7.2 million to around 660 companies to help them internationalise.
