Malta Independent Sunday, 26 February 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Liturgical works for St John’s was the theme chosen for the recent 10th Anniversary Concert organised by APS Bank, held at St John’s Co-Cathedral on 2 December, an event during which the music of Nicolò Isouard was performed.

Isouard’s liturgical works were written specifically for St John’s Conventual Church and were thought to be lost forever until they were re-discovered by Joseph Vella Bondin and Mgr John Azzopardi in a Paris library in 1990. After extensive editing by the prominent Australian conductor and musicologist Fra Richard Divall, the works were ready to be performed once again. Fra Divall was also commissioned to direct the concert.

As per the previous APS bank concerts, Isouard’s music was recorded on CD by an international recording label – Gega New. The bank has the pleasure to announce that Isouard’s CD is now available for the general public, a truly unique opportunity to appreciate this music once again.

For further information one can call the APS Bank’s Marketing Unit on 2122 6644 or visit the bank’s website www.apsbank.com.mt. Interested parties can also obtain a selection of CDs pertaining to previous APS Bank’s Concerts covering music from the 18th century to the present times.
