McDonald’s Malta this year is giving two lucky children between the ages of six and 10 the opportunity to be a Player Escort in the prestigious UEFA EURO 2012 Final that will be held in Kiev, Ukraine on 1 July 2012.
The two winners of this competition will get to walk onto the pitch of the fascinating stadium, hand in hand with some of the world’s best footballers, who will be fighting it out for a win that will go down in history.
The McDonald’s Player Escort competition has always attracted a large numbers of applicants for obvious reasons and this year’s competition is expecting nothing less than previous years. This year children are being asked to creatively demonstrate themselves having fun through any sports activity in the form of a painting or drawing and send in their creation together with an application form, which can be collected from any McDonald’s restaurant in Malta and Gozo. The closing date for all applications is end of day on the 31st of March after which a panel of judges will deliberate and announce the 2 lucky winners. Further to this they will also announce ten runners up that will each be entitled to a sports goody bag. The last player escort competition was held at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Trophy and thanks to McDonald’s Malta 6 year old Christina Higgins, who was the last competition winner walked out onto a packed stadium for the final match of the competition.
The sponsoring of the UEFA EURO 2012 is part of McDonald’s ongoing global commitment to use the brand to promote sports and physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle and is dedicated to inspiring kids and giving them the opportunity to play sports in a safe, organized and enjoyable manner. This year McDonald’s Europe will be sending 682 Official Player Escorts to Poland and Ukraine for the UEFA EURO 2012, ranging from 34 European Countries. These Player Escorts are selected through various activities, including promotions that encourage them to be active in local grassroots initiatives, as well as projects that inspire children creatively.
