A new project, Sustainable Lifestyles Project, which is funded by l-iStrina 2011 was press-launched on Tuesday evening under the patronage of President George Abela, at The Palace in Valletta.
The project is intended to disseminate decision-making skills which will enable individuals and families to enhance the sustainability of their lifestyles. Group chairman Gordon Cordina explained that decision-making is definitely not the only problem affecting the sustainability of lifestyles, but proper decision-making skills can go a long way to prevent problems and alleviate difficulties.
The Sustainable Lifestyles Project group includes members from various organisations, including educational institutions, the Church and other NGOs. The Malta Community Chest Fund has been monitoring and participating in this project.
At the launch Marie Briguglio presented the results of research undertaken in order to identify the major sustainability issues concerning Maltese individuals and families. These range from decisions regarding the acquisition of houses, consumption, work, family size and savings. Pitfalls in decision-making for different sections of society were also discussed. These results led to the formulation and implementation of two projects, one by Caritas and the other by the Cana Movement.
The initiative has been supported by President Abela, who is satisfied with the results achieved so far. President Abela augurs that further initiatives aimed at the prevention of individual and social problems would be undertaken.
This project confirms the commitment taken by the Malta Community Chest Fund to address social issues not only by supporting individuals and philanthropic institutions financially but also by seeking to create better lifestyles for a better society.
