Microsoft Malta has launched a local Software Asset Management programme in collaboration with three of its local partners, namely Computer Solutions, Kinetix and Computer Domain.
Software Asset Management is a proven industry best practice of business and IT processes and procedures combined with technology that has been very beneficial to companies around the world, helping them realise savings of 15 to 20 per cent in their overall IT budgets as well as significant savings in procurement and administrative costs.
“If your business relies on its IT operations to operate smoothly and efficiently, you are probably well aware of the complexities of managing software across an entire organisation,” explains Jacqueline Harvey, OEM Manager at Microsoft Malta. “Therefore every organisation should be asking itself some important questions such as what is the best way to control costs and manage business and legal risks? Could we do more with the software we already have? Will our current IT infrastructure be able to expand as our company grows?”
Ms Harvey added, “Software Asset Management is an industry best practice that helps companies control costs and optimise software investments across their organization and throughout all stages of their life cycles. Administered through an ongoing plan, SAM makes it easier for these companies to identify what they have, where it’s running, and whether redundancy may exist. A fully implemented SAM plan can help companies cut costs, improve security and compliance, and also anticipate future software needs. SAM also helps organisations accurately capture the costs and benefits associated with IT projects that enable a competitive advantage.”
“In addition, these customers report experiencing less downtime for employees, fewer help desk issues, faster inventory responses, and lower labour costs as a result of successful SAM programs. Businesses have also reported less tangible benefits, such as improved employee morale and overall peace of mind. Microsoft actively supports the partner community in developing their own SAM services and skills. Seeing tremendous value in educating customers on the benefits of properly managing their software assets, Microsoft also provides a number of SAM offerings directly to its customers,” concluded Ms Harvey.
Ruben Caruana from Computer Solutions Ltd added: “Based on a tiered approach, Computer Solutions can assist customers on how to build a best practice standards-based SAM programme, proactively and effectively manage their software assets, increase IT efficiencies and control costs and identify and reduce IT risks.”
“Software Asset Management can optimise organisations, depending on their software portfolios, with different functions. Through this approach Kinetix has assisted many organisations to not only optimise IT infrastructure, but also to maximize resources utilisation. Over the years, Kinetix found this exercise to be essential for organisations to reach their business goals,” said Curt Gauci, managing director of Kinetix Ltd.
