Malta Independent Sunday, 8 April 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Global Finance, the leading American financial publication, has named Bank of Valletta as the winner of the Best Bank in Malta award for the third consecutive year.

The accolade of “Best Bank” is awarded by Global Finance’s editors after extensive consultations with corporate financial executives, bankers and analysts throughout the world. The award is based on performance over the past year and other subjective criteria such as management excellence. Factors considered included growth in assets, profitability, geographic reach, strategic relationships, new business development and innovation in products. This is the 19th consecutive year that the magazine has selected top banks by country and region.

“The winners of this year’s awards are those banks that attended carefully to their customers’ needs in difficult markets and accomplished better results while laying the foundations for future success,” said Global Finance’s publisher Joseph D. Giarraputo. “The selection criteria yield leading banks that may not be the largest, the oldest or the most diversified in a given country, but rather the best, the banks with which corporations around the world would most likely want to do business.”

“Bank of Valletta is delighted to receive its second international recognition this year, having recently received the Corporate Governance Award at the London Stock Exchange from World Finance during the month of March,” said BOV CEO Charles Borg. “The bank’s consistent drive to remain at the forefront of innovation, such as the recent launch of the first mobile phone banking application in Malta, has led it to receive this award for the third year running.”
