The Auditor General has presented an audit report on the overall operational effectiveness of the information technology (IT) and information systems (IS) being used by Heritage Malta.
It highlights as an introduction that the core function of Heritage Malta involves the management of 31 sites and museums across Malta and Gozo, seven of which are Unesco World Heritage sites.
The organisational set-up of Heritage Malta is described in the report as being divided into four functional units: ICT and Information Management, Curatorial, Conservation and Projects. In addition, the Visitor Services and Events Department, the Human Resources and Administration Department, the Finance Department and the Legal Affairs Department report directly to the Office of the Chief Executive Officer. Heritage Malta finances its operations through revenues, mainly from admission fees to museums and sites, and also from a government subvention. The report shows that in 2010, Heritage Malta issued 1,431,178 admission tickets.
