As part of its commitment towards the environment The Alfred Mizzi Foundation has supported the resurgence of Malta’s environment ambassador ‘Xummiemu’. This iconic mascot, which was a household name for kids and adults in the 90s, has now been given a new life by the Ministry of Resources and Rural Affairs and the Hedgehog consortium.

The re-launch of Xummiemu was held at St Joseph School, Sliema where Xummiemu was symbolically appointed to the post of ambassador for the environment, where he will be championing all the ministry’s efforts related to the environment. Chrysander Agius, on behalf of the Hedgehog consortium said that Xummiemu has been given a new lease of life to address contemporary issues related to the environment. The consortium has created an innovative programme of events aimed at promoting the environment in a fun and interactive way.

Commenting on The Alfred Mizzi Foundation’s sponsorship, Albert Petrocochino, a trustee of the same Foundation said that the Foundation’s sponsorship forms part of our obligation to safeguard the local environment. The Foundation is extremely proud to be associated with the resurgence of this iconic hedgehog because in protecting the environment we are creating a better Malta for future generations.”
