In line with its strategy to further strengthen its global trade connectivity, HSBC Bank Malta has announced three new appointments to bring its International Commercial Banking team further expertise and experience.
The new appointees are Gordon Scicluna as Senior International Banking Manager and Head of Payments and Cash Management, Gaetano Sammut as Head of Trade and Receivables Finance and Vincent Borg as Senior Invoice Finance Manager.
“HSBC’s international business is a core proposition, providing our commercial customers with the ability to access banking services from all the key leading countries within which the HSBC Group operates,” said HSBC Malta’s Head of Commercial Banking, Michel Cordina. “With more companies from more countries and sectors than ever before trading internationally, the talent, experience, and expertise brought by these appointees represents an invaluable asset for the bank and its international business customers. With around 7,200 offices in both established and faster-growing markets, we aim to be where the growth is, connecting local customers to opportunities, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper. Ultimately, we want to help people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.”
Mr Scicluna’s experience encompasses more than 22 years in financial services, during which he has held a number of senior management roles in the bank’s Personal and Commercial banking sectors. He worked as a branch manager and has led the Contact Centre at Swatar. He also managed the implementation of the bank’s Contact Centre, which caters for the UK market. He then moved to Commercial Banking and, prior to this new appointment, was Senior Manager for SMEs and occupied the post of Senior Receivables Finance Manager, responsible for managing the bank’s receivables finance business.
Gaetano Sammut, who joined the bank in 1977, has specialised in trade services, credit management and credit and risk. In 2009, he was appointed Head of Trade and Supply Chain, responsible for financing international trade. He is an Associate of the Institute of Financial Services, for which he has also previously served as board member as well as secretary. Mr Sammut is currently a member of the board of the Maltese-Chinese Chamber of Commerce.
Vincent Borg joined the bank in 1990 and worked in various branches around the island before being appointed Financial Planning Manager. He then worked as a Compliance Manager for the bank and later joined HSBC Life Assurance (Malta) Ltd, where he ran the Business Development, Underwriting and Claims departments for the next six years. In 2011, Mr Borg moved to Commercial Banking as Senior Receivables Finance Manager. Mr Borg is a certified banker, financial adviser and underwriting specialist.
