Malta Independent Sunday, 27 May 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

LEAD Events is holding a specialised conference, Legal Team 2012, on 13 June at the Chamber of Commerce, Valletta.

According to LEAD Events managing director James Grech, the conference, targeting senior company executives, in-house lawyers and legal advisers, consultants, professionals and students, will give an insight into the challenges being faced by in-house legal teams in a complex global economy.

“This is the first time we are organising an event specifically targeted at legal teams and we have been pleasantly surprised with the positive response,” he said.

The keynote speaker is Julia Chain, managing partner of Huron Consulting in the UK, who will be addressing the theme Managing legal risks across the business. Dr Chain has over 25 years of experience in legal and management roles in both private practice and industry. She advises in-house legal departments and law firms on a range of issues, from organisation, design, operation and strategy to leadership development and coaching.

Before joining Huron, Dr Chain was a leader of UK-based H4 Partners. Previously, she founded The Kite Consultancy, the first bespoke UK consultancy to advise in-house legal departments, which later merged with H4. The enlarged business offered a wide range of management consultancy and advisory services, including strategic planning, leadership and development, and systems design and implementation.

Chamber of Advocates president Reuben Balzan will give an introductory address on the role of in-house lawyers. Other speakers are Gordon Cordina, who will address the major drivers of the economy over the next five years as set out in Malta’s National Reform Programme within the changing EU and global setting, and Theresienne Mifsud, head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at Melita plc.

After a networking lunch, Celebrity Events Malta will be conducting an energiser session and Malcolm J. Naudi, Partner, Achieve Business Consultancy & Training, will give a presentation on a new FranklinCovey training solution: The 5 Choices to Extraordinary Productivity.

Justice Minister Chris Said will deliver the closing remarks.
