UEFA has long valued its commitments and links with the academic community, particularly through several educational initiatives which are beneficial to the confederation and its member associations. European football stands to gain from this education programme.

This programme consists of three stages, the Certificate and Diploma in  Football Mamnagement (CFM and DFM) and the Executive Master in European Sports Governance (MESGO) in which Tanya Gravina graduated some months ago.

Presidents and general secretaries of national associations can recommend up to two members of staff every year as candidates for the Certificate and Diploma of Football Management.    

The inaugural edition of the Diploma in Football Manangement was held last September and lasted nine months, with the successful candidates having recently received their diploma. This qualifiaction will open the door for middle managers to enhance their knowledge in key areas in the organisation of football events, such as volunteer management, stadia and security, marketing and media operations, as well as other aspects of organisation.

The successful participants, amongst whom was Joe Micallef, MFA Executive committee member and Youth F.A. General Secretary, should now apply the knowledge gained in their respective associations. But more than that, they will also be able to exchange their experiences with representatives of other associations.

Gianni Infantino, UEFA general secretary, said that UEFA believes very much in these courses comprising knowledge sharing and exchange since this is the basis of learning and improvement. A key element which has been created now is the network between UEFA and yourselves, and we have to make this network live. We are proud of what you have achieved,’ he told the successful candidates.
