Popular Italian singer Antonello Venditti will be giving a concert in Malta on 24 August at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre, it was announced yesterday.

The concert will be organized by Standout Events, who last year achieved great success with a concert given by Zucchero in the same venue.

Addressing the media, Antonello Vassallo, director, said that it is the organisers’ intention to promote the concert in Italy as well. “The concert is ideal to increase tourism from Italy since Venditti commands a large following all over the peninsula,” she said.

Venditti was born in Rome on 8 March 1949. His most famous songs include Buona Domenica, Sotto il segno dei Pesci, In questo mondo do ladtri, Benvenuti in Paradiso, Ricordati di me, Amici Mai and Grazie Roma, a song that has become the unofficial anthem of his favourite football club AS Roma, and is played before each and every game.

Maltese group Winter Moods will also be taking part in the concert.
