The Corinthia Hotel St George’s Bay hosted the second Health and Safety event for Corinthia Hotels between 28 and 31 May.
The event, organised with the support of Corinthia Hotels Head Office and the coordination of legal advisor to the group on health and safety Jacqueline Tanti Dougall, strove to highlight the importance the hotel group gives to the health and well-being of its staff by advising them how to avoid accidents and incidents “as far as is reasonably possible” and thus ensuring their health and safety at all times. During these four days, Health, Safety and Security Officers from Panorama Hotel Prague and Corinthia Hotel Tripoli joined team members from the three hotels in Malta: Corinthia Hotel St George’s Bay, Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa and Marina Hotel, Corinthia Beach Resort.
Activities included a variety of talks dealing with various aspects of health and safety. The week began with a generic overview of health and safety that was followed by fire training, with team members learning how to reduce fire risks as well as how to handle small fires. The next day saw a full day devoted to emergency response, with team members being trained in the basics of first aid. Training sessions on the remaining days included accident investigation and risk assessment, where staff members were taught to investigate and evaluate possible risks in order to eliminate them and to minimise hazards and also avoid a repetition of accidents. The last topic covered was Food Safety in line with European legislation and Maltese law.
The three Corinthia Hotels also made arrangements for the mobile blood donation unit to call at the hotel during the week, encouraging team members to contribute to the health of the community in general and the participation in this was indeed excellent.
Corinthia Hotel St George’s Bay general manager Stuart Chappell said: “This Health & Safety event is something we insist on holding regularly as we value the welfare of both our team members and also the guests in our hotels. These courses are held specifically to ensure that we always have a team of experts versed in all aspects of health and safety and that their training is continually refreshed and updated”.
