The Finance Operations team at Vodafone Malta gave a helping hand to St Joseph’s Home in Santa Venera by cleaning, removing unwanted items, carrying out maintenance work, cooking for the children and other daily chores as part of the Independent Living Project. The football team donated a number of footballs and other equipment for the children’s sporting activities.

“The Vodafone Finance Operations team gave a much appreciated helping hand in starting the final phase of the Independent Living Project at St Joseph’s Home,” said the home’s director, Fr Frankie Cini. “Activities during the day included the setting up of the kitchen areas and general cleaning. This day jump-started the final stage of the project that will cater for children who have nowhere to go at the weekends and for young adults who are seeking shelter before venturing out on their own. We have all been deeply touched by the generosity of the Vodafone team, which delivered beyond our expectations in the preparations for the opening of this long-awaited project.”

“For me, it was very assuring having people like Fr Frankie and his team, who through their constant efforts and commitment strive to provide a better life for these children and young adults,” said Vodafone Malta Finance Operations Manager Jonathan Briffa. “We are very proud that we have contributed towards this project, which will certainly make a huge difference to the lives of these children. We enjoyed every minute of it and the happiness and pride achieved from the experience goes well beyond the efforts we put in,” he concluded.

St Joseph’s Home is run by the Missionary Society of St Paul and currently houses 18 boys aged between eight and 18 years who, for a variety of reasons, cannot live at home. The boys live in three separate flats inside the home according to their age group, which gives them a normal home environment with the aim of integrating them into society. At present work is being done on the Independent Living Project, in which part of the building will be used to cater for resident boys who are over the age of 16
