Rotary Club La Valette Malta is an active community service organisation chartered in April 2002. It proudly forms part of Rotary International, a worldwide network of 1.2 million Rotarians unified in 33,000 clubs spread over all continents. Besides major humanitarian and educational activities carried out worldwide, Rotary International is active in local communities through its Member Clubs. Rotary Club La Valette initiates and supports various activities and social causes in Malta and abroad, with regards to child behaviour and literacy, preservation of Maltese heritage and the support of children and adults in need.
This June, as a result of the collaboration between the Vittoria Rotary Club and Rotary Club La Valette, several Maltese Rotarians attended the Vittoria Jazz and Cerasuolo Wine Festival, during which Rotary Vittoria provides €5,000 to be awarded to three young musicians for the furthering of their music studies. While attending the Jazz sessions and enjoying Cerasuolo Wine and delicious Sicilian food, the Maltese Rotarians enthusiastically supported Maltese jazz musician Carlo Muscat, who was given the opportunity to compete for the Vittoria Rotary Jazz Award, by the kind sponsorship of United Trust (Malta), subsidiary of the United Trust Group. This organisation provides financial and corporate services to an international client base and has been most generous in making it possible for Rotary La Valette Malta to support Carlo Muscat.
Carlo was one of 19 musicians to reach the semi-finals out of 100 applicants. Although he was not among the six finalists, his exhibition was most appreciated. Carlo commented: “The participation in the Rotary Vittoria Jazz Award 2012 was such a great experience for me. I do not know how to thank everyone involved for the support and initiatives taken. I will start making the most of my new contacts and I will work hard to come up with creative ideas for events. With Rotary involvement, we will be able to host events which can promote music as a true form of art. This is an activity which can be developed even more in our local culture and something we should strive for in the long run.” Daniele Raimondi was the winner of the Vittoria Jazz Award 2012.
