Nestlé Malta has invested in a photovoltaic system that can generate over 115, 000 kWh per annum. The new system is designed to generate one-third of all its electricity requirements.

The investment was assisted by ERDF funds made available through Malta Enterprise in conjunction with the company’s own contribution.

The newly installed 70.56kWp solar system consists of 288 Hyundai PV panels and four sunny Tri Power SMA Inverters. The total generating power has an export potential of over €23,000 per year. The system incorporates the latest PV panel technology designed by Solar Solutions Ltd, a company that specialises in solar technology.

“Hyundai, a tier 1 company, is one of the world’s leading solar manufacturers offering a full range of quality solar PV panels. Their solar panels will be powering the world’s largest solar power system in the Arizona desert,” explained Karl Azzopardi, marketing director of Solar Solutions Ltd.

Naum Janakiev, Country Manager Nestlé Malta expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the new system. He said that Nestlé Malta has decided to go solar, both for economic purposes and for environmental reasons. “Solar energy being free and adundant in this country, will not only help our daily running costs, but will, at the same time, contribute to lowering our carbon footprint”.

Mr Janakiev added: “In economic terms, the newly installed system produces an estimated 115,000 kW hours annually, which converts to a value of€23,000 per year. That’s a big saving on our electricity bill, apart from going greener!”
