The Marina Hotel, Corinthia Beach Resort this year recognised the valuable contribution its housekeeping department makes towards the hotel’s high level of customer satisfaction by holding a Housekeeping Week from 9 to 15 September.
The event was held in conjunction with an initiative established by the International Executive Housekeepers’ Association (IEHA) in 1981, whereby the association sets aside one week during the year to focus attention on and give recognition to professional housekeepers working in facilities such as hospitals, hotels, state facilities, colleges/schools, and many others who maintain a cleaner, safer, healthier environment for us all each and every day.
This year, the Marina Hotel organised a series of activities during this same week. The key focus of these activities was directed at four key areas: team building, corporate social responsibility, training and development, and cultural diversity.
To foster team building, a ’Housekeeping Olympics’ was organised, including activities such as a Recycling Challenge, Bed Making competition and Blindfold pillow stuffing, amongst others.
The Corporate Social Responsibility activity proved very interesting and was organised in conjunction with New Leaf (newleaf.org.mt): a group of team members from different sections of the Corinthia Group, other than just the Housekeeping section. These team members volunteered to visit the National Library in Valletta to clean books stored in the library’s vaults, some of which were over 200 years old. These books represent some of our country’s most important heritage and this delicate task captured the interest of the team as they strove to contribute to this heritage with their endeavours.
Other activities within the Housekeeping Week included training on eco awareness as well as on the handling of chemicals. Bad Boy Cleaning Services Ltd and Hotelline Ltd, importers and distributors of Ecolab cleaning supplies, supported these initiatives.
Mr Reuben Mifsud, General Manager of the Marina Hotel, Corinthia Beach Resort said: “The Housekeeping Week gave us an opportunity to express our gratitude to the Housekeeping team, who contribute enormously to keep our rooms sparkling and our guests smiling all the time. This week of activities served to emphasise their importance within the hotel team, boost their morale, highlight all essential efforts within the hotel day-to-day operation and promote company quality service standards.”
