After less than a year operating in Malta, TRC Family Entertainment, a digital gaming company which is developing a fully-fledged digital game to be launched in the American market, has already created 100 jobs, thus reaching the target it had set for its first two years of operations.
This was announced during a visit by Minister of Finance, the Economy and Investment Tonio Fenech, who toured TRC’s premises in Msida and met its management and employees.
Minister Tonio Fenech welcomed this impressive figure, which vindicates government’s strategy to invest in digital gaming, a sector which has significant opportunities since it is experiencing worldwide growth. “These jobs reflect government’s proactive approach at creating new and better jobs. Over the past four years, not only 20,000 new jobs were created but the average salary increased by over €2,000.”
The digital games industry is considered as a key component within the creative industry in Malta which is one of the fastest growing media sectors globally. Minister Fenech explained government’s efforts at building the digital gaming sector into a sustainable economic activity in Malta, in line with the government strategy of diversifying the Maltese economy towards more high value added industries which can generate a higher rate of economic return per capita.
These efforts have been noted by credit rating agency Fitch, through its report published last week (in which it confirmed Malta’s rating at A+) where it welcomed Malta’s efforts at diversifying its economy towards export-oriented services.
Minister Fenech was accompanied by Malta Enterprise Chief Executive Officer Sue Vella.
