The formation of a Portuguese-Maltese Chamber of Commerce is now much closer following a seminar organised by the Embassy of Malta in Portugal in collaboration with Malta Enterprise. The seminar was organised for the Honorary Consuls of Malta in Portugal and the staff of the Embassy in Lisbon.

The main aim of the seminar, held at the Corinthia Lisboa Hotel, was to lay the basis for the launching of the Portuguese-Maltese Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber has already been legally registered. The seminar was addressed by Dr Raymond Bondin, the Charges d’Affaires en pied of Malta in Portugal and head of the embassy in Lisbon.
He spoke about the historical links between Malta and Portugal and the already substantial investment on both sides. It is enough to see that the Corinthia Group has two hotels in Portugal while in Malta one of the biggest banks is now Banif, a Portuguese bank. He spoke about the efforts being made to increase the economic activity between the two countries.

Claire Azzopardi, the Commercial Attaché who represents Malta Enterprise, also addressed the seminar. She gave a long presentation of why Malta is an important country for investment, pointing out the main priorities of Malta Enterprise. She spoke about how the two bodies are collaborating in Portugal to increase economic activity between the two countries.

A discussion was then held to discuss how the Chamber will be launched early next year and how the Hon Consuls can give their part to ensure that there is more information about Malta in Portugal.

This was just one of a number of activities being organised by the Embassy of Malta in Portugal in collaboration with Malta Enterprise.
