Malta’s first vegetarian, vegan and raw food restaurant celebrates its 1st birthday

Malta Independent Thursday, 10 January 2013, 09:54 Last update: about 11 years ago

On 9 January 2012 Angka Cafe opened its doors and changed the Maltese restaurant scene forever. “Once you walk through the door you enter a different world. Away from the chaos of life into a world of delicious food and guilt-free desserts.”

Despite the common phrase “Malta is a hundred years back”, Angka Cafe’s success is showing that the Maltese public are as much onto the new “healthy being” trends as much as the citizens of London, Sydney and New York.

Angka Cafe & Green Clinic was founded to give the public more choices when it comes to food. Their unique eco-technological method of food preparation means that dishes retain their nutritional quality, taste and energy. Bioactive and potent life-force foods such as raw sprouted seeds, fresh leafy green smoothies, superfoods, organic grains and grasses means that their food is going beyond normal understanding of “healthy”. As one regular put it, “Your food always makes me feel better”.

Angka Café Rejuvenation Centre is transcending the crude “Are you veggie or are you not?” question, as people are just generally enjoying exploring their options. The mission of the café is to produce honest food, free from ingredients, which are refined, preserved or artificial. The premise, “Make your food as your remedy…” belonged to the first recognised medical doctor Hypocrites, 500BC. People with chronic health conditions find great support here.

“Thank you for saving my life” – Fiona, cancer patient in remission; “The only place where my son has no allergic reaction to sweets and desserts. Thank you for my child’s smile!” – Cynthia, mother of five-year-old.

For those who are already convinced, Angka is firmly nested in their hearts, “So grateful for the existence of this wonderful café with the fantastic family atmosphere. Truly, the only of its kind in Malta. Life got better the day they opened”.

This base of customers is what inspired the team at Angka Cafe to celebrate their birthday with a Day of Gratitude. All plates will be the same size (served from their self-service buffet) and each customer will pay for the next person!

Beyond the cafeteria, Angka Cafe is the home of a wonderful variety of events, classes, talks and workshops on self-development. The future of Angka Cafe is bright, with the team full of inspirational ideas and innovative activities.
