What is wrong with Air Malta?

Malta Independent Sunday, 27 January 2013, 09:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

A friend in Germany is planning to bring a group of friends to Gozo from mid-October to mid-November. They will be staying a total of four weeks.

He has been trying to book a flight from Munich to Malta and back to Munich via the Air Malta website for several days now and has been unsuccessful. The site comes up with the message that there are no flights available on the dates requested, although he ticked the ‘flexible date’ icon. He has been booking flights via the Air Malta site for several years so is not unfamiliar with the procedure. In desperation, he contacted me to see if I could help from this end.

I have also just tried unsuccessfully to book online for him, so I called the call centre. The delightful lady to whom I spoke was also unable to obtain flights for November. She suggested that they might not have been downloaded yet and, no, she couldn’t find out for sure, neither could she give me a number to phone to obtain further details. This is certainly no way to encourage tourists to visit Malta and Gozo.

I can understand that flights for 2014 may not be available yet, but November is only a few months away!

If flights have not yet been downloaded, then surely an appropriate message to that effect could be displayed.

Most people need to plan their holidays in advance and in this case Air Malta is certainly not offering a service. No wonder they are doing so badly!
