A man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital on Sunday night after he was injured during a fight at the Rabat Labour Party. The police this afternoon reported that he is in critical condition.

The fight started at around 9.30pm at the Labour Party Club in St Paul Street and continued outside in the street.

The fight involved four people who were having a drink at the bar.

Mobile, district and plain clothes policemen were on the site and the road was closed for some time.

In its report to the media - which was released at 1pm today, more than 12 hours after the incident took place – the police said that at 9.30pm the assistance of the police was required in St Paul Street, Rabat after an argument had developed.

On site, the police found three persons, one aged 49 of Santa Venera, and another of 52 from Msida, and a 41 year-old-woman of Cospicua, who had suffered injuries and were bleeding.

A 37-year-old, resident of Mara, was found on the ground, the police said.

The 37-year-old was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment. The man was reported to be in danger of dying.

The police did not make any reference to the Labour Party club in its statement.
