Labour accuses Tonio Fenech of lying and contradicting himself

Malta Independent Friday, 22 February 2013, 19:59 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Labour Party accused Tonio Fenech of lying and contradicting himself.

Unlike what happened yesterday, when the PL hastily organised a press conference to reply to PN accusations, this time the Labour Party chose to issue a short statement.

In it, the PL said that Tonio Fenech has now confirmed that he did receive a gift from George Farrugia who visited his house.

It said that this is in sharp contrast with his previous declarations that whoever accepted gifts from oil traders was part of Enemalta’s corruption.

The PL said that on Thursday Dr Fenech had insisted that “he had never received a gift from George Farrugia”. However yesterday’s admission that he did receive a gift, proves that he is also part of Enemalta’s corruption.

The PL pointed out that up to a few hours before yesterday news conference, Dr Fenech was still insisting that Farrugia never came to his house, whereas later he said otherwise. It added that the finance minister is lying and has no credibility, whilst accusing him of mudslinging on the eve of the election.

The PL concluded its statement saying that it will not waste people’s time in ridiculous attacks, but keep focused on families, business and the much needed change for the country.
