Prime Minister and PN leader Lawrence Gonzi stressed on the importance that all educational institutions should all come together to seek ways to help better education and create new horizons for students.
He said that a PN government never closed any schools but opened a string of new schools while having reopened Mcast.
Dr Gonzi was addressing youths during a dialogue session, ‘Qalb iz-zghazagh’, held in Paceville this evening. He was accompanied by deputy leader Simon Busuttil.
He called on first-time voters to vote wisely and reflect on what a PN government did over the last five years and what it has accomplished, adding that the PN’s track record speaks for itself.
He said that the PN invests in the most of important sectors and one needn’t look too far, referring to Mcast’s infrastructural and academic development.
Dr Gonzi said that a fund would be set up to help manufacturing companies expand, which will lead to the creation of new jobs.
On the state-of-the-art life sciences centre currently being built beside Mater Dei Hospital, Dr Gonzi said that the Bio Campus will be the hub of research and innovation and another milestone reached.
Matthew Spiteri, an Mcast student, told the Prime Minister “that I don’t intend telling you shame on you but instead would like to thank you for your sterling work”. Dr Gonzi replied that he is aware that a number of Mcast students appreciate the government’s work in the education sector.
Dr Gonzi said that Malta can attract more financial services companies to invest in Malta by reducing the tax burden on such companies. This, he said, can only happen if we maintained our strong finances.
Despite having been booed by a number of students at Mcast, Dr Gonzi said that although this occurred, students in the end were wise enough to realise which political party can provide the best education.
