Malta Independent Monday, 4 March 2013, 16:12 Last update: about 12 years ago

It would appear that tribal politics has not quite been eliminated from the local scene.

A woman, aged 35 was yesterday assaulted in front of her children after one of them passed a comment. The child, aged 11, uttered the phrase “jaqq laburisti” on seeing a group of flag wielding PL supporters.

On hearing the’jibe’, the group of men took the child’s mother to task, saying that she was not raising her in a correct manner. Matters escalated when one of the men snatched money out of the mother’s hands, while another spat at her and  hit her in the face with a soft drinks bottle.

The woman suffered bruising and had to be referred to Mater Dei Hospital. A police report was filed at the Hamrun police station, where the incident occurred.

The incident occurred in Hamrun yesterday evening after the PN and PL mass meetings.
