Update adds statement by Gozo ministry

Gozitan students are still waiting for their maintenance grant, which is several weeks in arrears.

KSU, the University of Malta’s students’ council, has expressed its full support for Gozitan students with regards to the delays in the issuing of their grants.

“The council will be engaging in discussion with the Gozo liason officer and the Gozo University group to set out a way forward. KSU urges the relevant authorities to rectify the situation at once, in order to allow Gozitan students to maintain the status-quo in their studies in Malta.”

The Gozo University students’ group said that one-third of their €1,200 annual grant has gone unpaid. Payments are usually made every three months.

?Statement by the Gozo ministry

“The Gozo ministry was provided with all the necessary funds for Gozitan students on 2 May. The subsidies are being processed, and some delays have been encountered due to technical exigencies within the Treasury."

"The payments will continue to be processed tomorrow. All cheques are expected to be issued and posted by 10 May, or at the latest on the 13 May,” a spokesperson for the ministry said.
